We’ve all noticed the shift: these days, if you want to catch up with a friend, you often meet for coffee, not a pint. That’s why our main idea when planning Black Croft Coffee was simple—the coffee shop is the new pub. We wanted to build a genuine, comfortable place where everyone in Oban could feel welcome to hang out, chat, or just relax with a great cup.

We took this idea seriously when we designed the shop at 14 George Street. You won’t find any cramped tables here. We deliberately found a large location so we could include plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs. This means you’ll never feel “squashed in,” whether you’re coming in solo to read a book or bringing a whole group for a morning catch-up. Comfort isn’t a bonus; it’s the foundation of everything we do.

Being a local spot means putting the community first. We are incredibly proud to be an independent local brand, not some big chain. That independence allows us to focus entirely on what Oban needs. We’re thrilled that this venture has also allowed us to generate between 18 and 22 new local jobs right here in town, strengthening our roots in the community.

You’ll also notice the design has a definite Highland heritage feel. We used warm wood and strong, natural materials to create a welcoming, authentic atmosphere that reflects the area. It feels like a secure, cozy space—a modern take on the sturdy old Scottish croft.

We see Black Croft Coffee as more than just a quick pit stop. It’s a place to linger, to meet, and to connect. We believe in being a reliable part of your day, which is why we’re open 8am to 5pm daily. Whether you need a place to start your day or wind down in the afternoon, we’re here to be your consistent, comfortable sanctuary. Our mission is to simply be the best place in Oban to spend an hour or two.
